1,200,000 EUROS TO BUILD CAPACITIES OF THE NON GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS IN WEST AFRICA

17 Non Governmental Organizations working in regional integration area, APE, free movement, promotion of woman and capacity building have benefited from the European Union a grant amounting to Euro 1,200, 000.

This grant as a first in kind to Non Governmental Organizations of the region is a common initiative of the ECOWAS and UEMOA with the technical and financial support of the European Union.

This important support will enable the NGOs to build their capacity in order to fully play their role in the regional integration process. It will also enable the recipients to participate fully in formulation of policies, strategies and plans at the regional level and therefore extend ongoing integration actions to populations within the region.

On this occasion, a solemn ceremony has been organized at the ECOWAS Commission during which the Vice President of the Commission appreciated leadership and partnership spirit that the UEMOA and ECOWAS showed. He recalled that Non government actors remain key partners in the global regional integration process. However, Mr. Jean de Dieu Somda cautioned the beneficiaries by stating that the ECOWAS will ensure the good conduct of this activity. «THE ECOWAS Commission will work closely with different national representations to make sure projects are executed according to approved work plan», he warned.
