UEMOA-ECOWAS 11th JOINT TECHNICAL SECRETARIAT MEETING TO HOLD IN ABUJA

The meeting of UEMOA and ECOWAS 11th Joint Technical Secretariat (JTS) will be held from December 9 to 13 in Abuja, Nigeria in the presence of the Presidents of the two Institutions, Commissioners, Directors, and experts from the two regional organizations.

The objective of this meeting is to discuss issues of convergence, to ensure better coordination of the various programs run by the two institutions, to strengthen bilateral cooperation in order to enhance the regional integration process underway in West Africa.

This meeting will give a lift to both institutions to review the progress made in the implementation of joint projects including the achievement of macroeconomic policies, infrastructure, agriculture, regional food security, etc., cooperation with Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and resource mobilization.

Discussions will also focus on the support to economic integration and trade, the platform for collaborative convergence between the Community Development Programme (CDP) of ECOWAS and the Regional Economic Programme (REP) of WAEMU, the negotiations of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and also the Common External Tariff (CET) of ECOWAS.

UEMOA and ECOWAS leaders will also talk about the agenda of the World Bank, the Regional Project to support private sector, the assistance to Guinea Bissau and the status of implementation of the Regional Indicative Programme (RIP), 10th European Development Fund (EDF) and the prospects of the 11th RIP EDF.
