The circle of diplomats accredited to ECOWAS has expanded. Three new ambassadors presented Friday, February 13, 2015 their credentials to the President of the Commission, His Excellency Kadré Désiré Ouédraogo.
The first diplomat to present his credentials was His Excellency Dr. Antonio Pedro Rodrigues da Silva of Portugal. The Portuguese diplomat expressed his commitment to strengthen relationships and enhance cooperation between Portugal and ECOWAS. The President of ECOWAS Commission congratulated the new diplomat and expressed his appreciation and gratitude to Portugal for its support to the ECOWAS initiative for democratic transition in Guinea Bissau.
His Excellency Dr. Antonio Pedro Rodrigues da Silva was Portugal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office based in Geneva. Previously, he held important functions among others, Head of Mission of the Portuguese Embassy in Kinshasa, Head of Consular Section in Brazil and Angola and Diplomatic Advisor to the Department of Foreign Affairs.
The second diplomat to present his credentials was His Excellency Carlos E. Trejo SOSA of the Republic of Cuba. He expressed his full availability and commitment to strengthen the bonds of cooperation between Cuba and ECOWAS. The President of ECOWAS Commission, His Excellency Kadré Désiré Ouédraogo congratulated the Cuban diplomat for the choice made on him and expressed deep gratitude to the people and to the Cuban authorities for their invaluable support in the fight against the Ebola virus disease and the ECOWAS program for the eradication of malaria in West Africa.
His Excellency Carlos E. Trejo SOSA of the Republic of Cuba was successively First Secretary of the Cuban Embassy in Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Head of Europe office to the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chargé d’Affaires in Russia and Albania, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina. His Excellency Carlos Trejo SOSA is fluent in English, French, Russian and Portuguese.
The third accredited diplomat was His Excellency Prof. Dr. Jovan MARIC of Serbia. In his address, he referred to the establishment of new ties of cooperation and his willingness to strengthen relations between Serbia and ECOWAS. The President of the ECOWAS Commission congratulated the new Ambassador Jovan MARIC Serbia and wished him success in the performance of his new mission.
