CHINA DONATES 30 MILLION YUANS TO EQUIP ECOWAS STANDBY FORCE

The People’s Republic of China donated 30 million Yuans to the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States for the acquisition of military equipment for the ECOWAS Standby Force.

This Chinese support will cover the purchase of several peaks equipment in areas of transport, transmission, training, education, health, information technology, and housing. The support will enable ECOWAS to deploy its forces anywhere in the region, at any time with adequate means.

The President of ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Kadré Désiré Ouédraogo and the Chinese Ambassador H.E. Gu Hiaojie conducted May 13, 2015 the signing of the MOU for funding of this important contribution.

During a brief speech on the occasion, the Chinese diplomat said that this financing agreement signed by both parties marks a new stage in the bonds of fruitful cooperation between China and ECOWAS.

For his part, the President of ECOWAS Commission expressed its gratitude to the Government and Chinese people for this valuable contribution to the process of maintaining peace and security in the ECOWAS region.

Recall that China is engaged in the financing and construction of a new headquarters for the ECOWAS Commission. China is also involved in the construction of the Lagos-Abidjan regional highway.
