About twenty executives met in Kaduna to discuss major issues such as implementing at the earliest the Unit for Preparation and Development of the ECOWAS project (PPDU) while ensuring an appropriate institutional context, appropriate management autonomy and a compliance of texts with those of the Commission.
During three days meeting, participants in Kaduna representing different Technical Directorates agreed on the necessity to make the PPDU autonomous by ensuring appropriate procedures and manuals of accounting, finance, administration and management of human resources. They also agreed that the Unit shall be managed by two governance bodies, i.e. a management team and a Pilot Committee of nine members chaired by the ECOWAS. Furthermore, law bills related to organization, assignment of duties and operation of the PPDU have been reviewed and amended by the participants in Kaduna meeting. These law bills will be submitted to the ECOWAS statutory instances for approval during the next sessions.
Many partners have already showed their interest to support PPDU. The ECOWAS granted several million of US Dollars for infrastructure funds and operation of the new structure./.
