The technical meeting on finalizing the regional road map of PIR 10th, EDF jointly organized by the UEMOA and ECOWAS Commissions in Dakar, has organized at the end of its work session recommended to focus available resources on major programs and gave priorities to finance concrete projects visible by the populations, namely in the area of infrastructure.
The European Union support, estimated to Euro 597 million for the Regional Indicative Program (RIP), 10th EDF will cover key sectors such as strengthening of regional integration and improvement of competitiveness.
The Dakar meeting was held in the presence of Representatives of the Delegations of the European Union (EU) from Burkina Faso and Nigeria as well as Heads of projects financed from EU funds.
During the meeting, the EU has delivered a training on internal reflection at its level regarding areas of activities to finance on RIP 10th EDF. A special focus has been put on railways rehabilitation, bridge construction on corridors, implementation of information center of the ECOWAS on energy, interconnectivity of power grids and creation of regional market of energy. The EU wished that the projects of RIP 10th EDF shall be guided by the principles such as the maturity degree of projects, regional strategic level, consideration of the coherence between PIN and RIP, structuring characteristic of projects and their leverage.
The ECOWAS and UEMOA have examined comments of the EU and have agreed to consider it in the finalization of the road map of 10th EDF.
